This album was recorded from a live performance at the storied Canterbury House in Ann Arbor, MI, on Jan 25th of 2025. Credit to Michael Skib for running live sound and audio recording as well as providing valuable mixing feedback. Mixed and mastered by myself, Birjy. With the exception of my cover of Legend of Zelda: Gerudo Valley, all music is original. Lyrics from poetry are noted above. Much gratitude to Barbara Kingsolver for graciously allowing me to follow my creative impulse in setting some of her poems to music.

About

Bio

Birjy is the wide-ranging, transcendent electro-acoustic solo project of a violist, composer, and music producer based in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Birjy grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and received her Bachelors in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan School of Music.  After years focusing on classical music performing, gigging, and teaching, she began composing, playing in bands, and learning electronic music production while in Austin, Texas.  She played violin with Texas solo artists Susanna Lee and Hank Erwin, and was a member of the band fortune my foe, affectionately described by its members as post-prog rock neo-morose core. She joined the Austin Songwriters Guild, and began singing and making music with a looping pedal.

Eventually returning to Michigan, she began performing solo in 2022.  Her music alternates between beautiful and intense, between minimalistic and dense layers of distorted sound, and has classical, world music, and post-rock influences, while being none of these.   People have described listening to her music as ‘being transported to another world’.

Animal welfare is an issue that is near and dear to my heart, and as such I'm available to play at any fundraiser, festival, or other event that promotes their right to exist free of human harm.

Veganism: a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as possible and practiceable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose.
